Student and Parent iPad User Agreement

Purpose

At Holy Redeemer Catholic School our goal is that technology should be used for academic and cognitive outcomes associated with the use of technology. Technology is not looked at as an “end,” but as a means through which thinking skills and academic knowledge is acquired. All uses of technology are viewed in context of the moral and ethical teachings of the Catholic Church. Authentic use of technology by both the teachers and the students is an integral part of the teaching and learning.

Hardware

Each student will be issued a school owned 32GB Apple iPad (2018, 6th Gen.), a Logitech Rugged Combo 2 case with keyboard, a USB lightning cable, and power brick. He/she is responsible for the care of the equipment on a daily basis and ensuring that it is retained in a safe environment. Any technical or mechanical issues with the iPad (and/or its case, charger, and/or cable) must be reported to the Holy Redeemer Catholic School Administration immediately.

Care of the iPad

Clean iPad immediately if it comes in contact with anything that may cause stains or other damage—for example, dirt or sand, ink, makeup, soap, detergent, acids or acidic foods, and lotions. To clean:

·       Disconnect all cables and turn iPad off (press and hold the Sleep/Wake button, then drag the slider).

·       Use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth—for example, a lens cloth.

·       Avoid getting moisture in openings.

·       Don’t use cleaning products or compressed air.

The front of iPad is made of glass with a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic (oil-repellant) coating. This coating wears over time with normal usage. Cleaning products and abrasive materials will further diminish the coating and may scratch the glass.

Never force a connector into a port or apply excessive pressure to a button, because this may cause damage that is not covered under the warranty. If the connector and port don’t join with reasonable ease, they probably don’t match. Check for obstructions and make sure that the connector matches the port and that you have positioned the connector correctly in relation to the port.

Discoloration of the Lightning connector after regular use is normal. Dirt, debris, and exposure to moisture may cause discoloration. If your Lightning cable or connector become warm during use or your iPad won’t charge or sync, disconnect it from your computer or power adapter and clean the Lightning connector with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use liquids or cleaning products when cleaning the Lightning connector.

Certain usage patterns can contribute to the fraying or breaking of cables. The Lightning to USB Cable, like any other metal wire or cable, is subject to becoming weak or brittle if repeatedly bent in the same spot. Aim for gentle curves instead of angles in the cable. Regularly inspect the cable and connector for any kinks, breaks, bends, or other damage. Should you find any such damage, replace the Lightning to USB Cable.

iPad is designed to work in ambient temperatures between 32° and 95° F (0° and 35° C) and stored in temperatures between -4° and 113° F (-20° and 45° C). iPad can be damaged and battery life shortened if stored or operated outside of these temperature ranges. Avoid exposing iPad to dramatic changes in temperature or humidity. When you’re using iPad or charging the battery, it is normal for iPad to get warm.

If the interior temperature of iPad exceeds normal operating temperatures (for example, in a hot car or in direct sunlight for extended periods of time), you may experience the following as it attempts to regulate its temperature:

·       iPad stops charging.

·       The screen dims.

·       A temperature warning screen appears.

·       Some apps may close.

Important: You may not be able to use iPad while the temperature warning screen is displayed. If iPad can’t regulate its internal temperature, it goes into deep sleep mode until it cools. Move iPad to a cooler location out of direct sunlight and wait a few minutes before trying to use iPad again.

Insurance Coverage

The school has provided insurance through Apple Care.  Any damage, theft or loss must be reported to the Holy Redeemer Catholic School Administration immediately and appropriate steps will be taken. Parents will be responsible for the cost of the deductible ($49.00), should a claim have to be filed. Coverage is for:

·       Accidental Damage - Drops, Spills, Cracked Screens and Liquid Submersion

·       Theft, Burglary and Robbery Coverage

·       Standard Perils - Fire, Flood, Natural Disasters, Power Surge due to Lightning and Vandalism

If your iPad is stolen, you are required to notify the local police immediately upon discovery. This policy does not provide coverage if you fail to notify the police.

Login Credentials

Each student will be provided login credentials in order to use his/her iPad and apps.  Login credentials are unique to each student and should not be shared with or used by other students. Using other students’ login credentials is a violation of the Diocese of Orlando / Office of Catholic Schools Student Technology Responsible Use Policy contained in the Parent/Student Handbook.

Safeguarding and Maintaining as an Academic Tool

Students are required to bring their iPads to school every day, fully charged.  If an iPad is left at home or is not charged, the student remains responsible for completing all coursework as if they had use of their iPad.

The student should know where the iPad is at all times.  It is the student’s responsibility to keep their iPad safe and secure in a backpack or other enclosed case.  iPads belonging to other students are not to be tampered with in any manner.

If an iPad is found unattended, it should be given to the nearest faculty/staff member.

All material on the iPad must adhere to the Mission and Values of Holy Redeemer Catholic School.  Students must abide by the Diocese of Orlando / Office of Catholic Schools Student Technology Responsible Use Policy contained in the Parent/Student Handbook.

Students must use good judgment and follow Holy Redeemer Catholic School’s rules of conduct when using the camera. The student agrees to use the camera in an appropriate and legal manner.  The camera will not be used to embarrass anyone in any way. Any use of cameras in restrooms is strictly prohibited.

Any student found trying to gain access to another student’s iPad, accounts, files or data, will be subject to disciplinary action.

“Jailbreaking” is the process which removes any limitations placed on the iPad.  Jailbreaking results in a less secure device and is strictly prohibited.
